OUR AIMS
Members of the BRAss team are working to produce a modern, reliable,
readable translation of the books of the New Testament based on the Greek text known
as the Textus Receptus or "Received Text" (TR). We are using the
version edited by FHA Scrivener published by Cambridge University Press in 1902
and republished more recently by the Trinitarian Bible Society.
The TR is the text that underlies the King James Version of the Bible and
has been used down the centuries by all Greek speaking churches.
Yet since the beginning of the 20th century - with the key
exception of the New King James Version - every major translation of the New
Testament into English since the late 19th century has abandoned the TR in
favour of the Nestle-Aland/United Bible Society text ("NU").
The NU is based on a small number of admittedly ancient but poorly
executed manuscripts with many internal inconsistencies.
There are more than 5,000 differences between the TR and the NU. The NU
text omits many complete verses from the TR and an even greater number of
portions of verses. In addition there are numerous changes to individual words.
Many of these changes weaken the Biblical evidence for key evangelical
doctrines and undermine the achievements of the Reformation.
We believe it is time the TR was restored to its rightful place and that
today's English speaking Christians were given access to a contemporary
translation of the New Testament, as readable as the NIV and as faithful to the
truth of the TR as the Authorised (King James) Version.
